5-aside

At this years 5-aside the sun was shining and it was an amazing day to be outside playing soccer, touch and kia-rahi. There was amazing participation from all houses and you could feel the house spirit as you walked around seeing the people in the gaps of playing their sport watching and supporting their house in the other sporting events. While on the field students carried out healthy competitive play and sportsmanship by honouring their opponents when they got points, shaking hands and shouting charts after the game. Some teams were out there to play hard with tactics and determination whereas some were just in it for a good time but no matter what their motives were everybody had a good time.

Huge shout out to the year 7’s playing kia-rahi because not only did they have to concentrate on winning their games but they had to do it with a game they’ve never played before! Yes that’s right, in the short space of time they had to learn the game and then play the game so a massive congratulations to them for picking up on it so fast.

Thank you to the teachers that helped referee and help out during the games especially Mr Aubrey for volunteering to take the year 7 & 8’s at kia-rahi to teach them the ways of this awesome game. Thank you to our groundskeepers Mr Hamilton and Mr Pimm for marking out the courses especially those tricky circles in kia-rahi, we really appreciate everything you do. And last but not least, thank you to Ms Tagiaia and once again Mrs Constable for their awesome work behind the scenes to get this years 5-aside rollling.
